Laurens to Honor Retiring Police Chief Heath Copeland After 26 Years of Service

The city of Laurens will host a retirement celebration for Police Chief Heath Copeland, honoring his 26 years of service to the community.
The drop-in event is set for Wednesday, July 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Ridge, 301 Exchange Road, Laurens. Mayor’s remarks are scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
The celebration recognizes Copeland’s career in law enforcement and the impact he has made on the citizens of Laurens. The invitation from the city and the Laurens Police Department describes the chief’s tenure as marked by leadership, integrity and unwavering commitment.
“Please join us as we honor Chief Copeland for his 26 years of dedicated service, unwavering commitment, and the lasting impact he has made on the citizens of Laurens,” the invitation reads.
Copeland is retiring from law enforcement after more than two and a half decades. He will be succeeded as Laurens police chief by Dillon Sherfield, a member of his command staff.
Residents are invited to stop by The Ridge during the two-hour window to thank the chief and celebrate his years of service. City officials said they hope to see the community come out to mark Copeland’s career.
