Able South Carolina marks 36th ADA anniversary with state-led celebrations and virtual Town Hall

In celebration of Disability Pride Month and the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Able South Carolina (Able SC) is hosting a series of statewide events aimed at advancing disability rights, culture, and advocacy across the Palmetto State.
Signed into law on July 26, 1990, the ADA remains the foundational civil rights legislation ensuring access, inclusion, and equal opportunity for citizens with disabilities. To honor the landmark law, local governments across South Carolina are issuing official proclamations designating July 26, 2026, as ADA Anniversary Day—recognizing the vital contributions of the 1 in 3 South Carolinians living with a disability.
Local & Virtual Highlight: State of Disability Pride SC Town Hall
While several regional events are taking place in Columbia this week—including youth programming and a public reading of the ADA at Soda City Market—coastal and statewide residents can participate directly from home through the State of Disability Pride SC Virtual Town Hall. Hosted online on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 5:30 PM, this virtual event offers community members, allies, and advocates a comprehensive briefing from Able SC’s Advocacy Team on policy updates, current events, and key issues directly impacting individuals with disabilities today.
