Columbia’s newest neighborhood gathering place officially opened its doors as Melrose Market celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, July 22, alongside Columbia Mayor Daniel Rickenmann, community leaders and neighborhood supporters.
Managing Partner Chad Elsey welcomed guests before Mayor Rickenmann recognized the significance of the locally owned restaurant, which filled a long-standing need for a full-service neighborhood dining destination in the historic Melrose Heights community. Following the ceremony, attendees raised a community toast to celebrate the opening and the continued revitalization of the Gervais Street corridor.
Melrose Market combines chef-crafted American cuisine, a full-service bar and a thoughtfully curated market under one roof, creating a welcoming space designed for everything from casual lunches and evening cocktails to family dinners and everyday visits. The restaurant features indoor and outdoor dining, comfortable lounge seating and a market inspired by the feel of a Southern corner store with the charm of a European café.
The opening marked the culmination of a project that had been years in the making for neighborhood residents and business leaders, adding another locally owned destination to one of Columbia’s historic neighborhoods.
