Tapestry Marks 40 Years in Business With “40 and Fabulous” Party Aug. 7
July 27, 2026Tapestry Inc., a locally owned women’s clothing boutique on East Carolina Avenue, is throwing a “40 and Fabulous” party Friday, Aug. 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. to celebrate 40 years in business, and the evening will include sales, prizes and more.
Tapestry has a reputation for its special events, from the annual 12 Days of Christmas sale to trunk shows and the popular $19 room, and the 40th anniversary celebration is expected to be the largest yet.
Tapestry opened in 1986 and has kept the women of Laurens County in style ever since, serving customers from Clinton, Laurens, Joanna, Kinards, Mountville and beyond. The boutique carries more than 60 clothing and accessory lines, along with jewelry, shoes, handbags and gifts.
The store began with a family conversation. Founder Leslie Anne Cooper Jackson was selling copiers out of Columbia and unhappy in the work when her father, Lynn Cooper of Cooper Motor Company, told her what the town needed was a clothing store. He owned the vacant building that would become Tapestry a year later.
Jackson built the business into a fixture of Clinton retail and ran it for 36 years. She was known for her determination as much as her eye for fashion, and once told the Buzz, “Underestimate me and that will be fun.”
Owner Megan Cauble Knight, a Clinton native, has spent nearly half her life at Tapestry. She started working in the store as a teenager in 2011, became manager in 2015 and purchased the business from Jackson in 2022.
“None of this started with me. It started with Leslie Anne, and every day I walk in here I am aware of that,” Knight said. “This party is for her as much as it is for us.”
Knight said the milestone belongs to the customers as well.
“Women in this county chose to shop here instead of somewhere else, over and over again, for four decades,” she said. “We want every one of them at this party.”
Four decades is a rare milestone for any independent retailer, particularly in a small-town market reshaped by national chains and online shopping. Tapestry’s longevity reflects a customer base built across generations.
Tapestry is located at 316 E. Carolina Ave. in Clinton and can be reached at 864-833-6591. Store hours and current inventory are posted on the Tapestry Inc. Facebook page and at shoptapestryinc.com.
The party is open to the public.
