The Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Communications, reporting to the Senior Associate AD for External Operations, will serve to expand the overall awareness of the University, athletics department, student-athletes, and coaches to the faculty/staff on-campus and in the greater community as well as support the public relations value for the university’s mission and vision. This position will serve as the primary Communications contact for up to five assigned sports and provide oversight over communications efforts for all department programs.
• Responsible for writing and produce press releases, game notes and game releases, feature stories and social media content and engaging coverage for assigned USC Upstate programs. Create relationship with local media outlets and partners. Lead contact for Big South Conference and NCAA on awards and recognitions for the department
• Responsible for maintenance of the Athletics website including but not limited to independently determining the content that is written and posted to the athletics website; writing biographical sketches of coaches, student-athletes and staff and other pertinent information, including in-depth feature stories. Create graphics for use on Athletics website and social media, and coordinate with Asst AD for Video Services and Digital Strategy to edit and post-game/event/interview highlight clips for the website and social media.
• Lead the public relations strategy for the assigned programs within the athletic department. The position is expected to be embedded with assigned programs and be the authority on information and public relations opportunities about each program.
• In collaboration Director of Video Services and Digital Strategy, set up video shoots, and coordinate team pictures and promotional media days.
• Manage administrative duties within the Communications Office that includes:
o NCAA liaison for statistics, schedules and roster management; championship liaison for the Big South Conference
o Sharing of digital media with student-athletes
o Nomination and recognition of awards for student-athletes through the NCAA, Big South Conference and other national and regional outlets
o SID Committee Member for the Big South
o Liaison to College Sports Communicators.
• Supervise and evaluate the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications and Social Media and Communications, temporary employees, Graduate Assistant(s) and/or student employees.
• Maintain season and historical statistics for assigned sports; supervise statistical crews and other event support personnel for home games.
• Assess and determine uses for historical highlights and milestones for use in the production of social media features.
• Other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate AD for External Operations
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience: Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 2 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience. A valid driver’s license required. A successful background check is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a lead communications representative for two or more programs is preferred.
Salary: $49,069; Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
