U.S. unemployment rate holds steady at 4.4% in June

The U.S. unemployment rate held steady at 4.4% in June, unchanged from a year ago, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Across the nation’s 387 metropolitan areas, unemployment rates were mixed compared with June 2025, increasing in 184 metro areas, declining in 178 and remaining unchanged in 25. Fifteen metro areas reported unemployment rates below 3%, while seven had rates of 8% or higher.
Year over year, nonfarm payroll employment increased in 15 metropolitan areas, declined in three and was essentially unchanged in the remaining 369.
The South Carolina unemployment rate also held steady at 4.4% in June, unchanged from a year ago.
