Mission Lexington celebrates 45 years of the Mission Store

Mission Lexington is celebrating a milestone 45 years in the making. On Monday, August 17, the nonprofit will commemorate the 45th Anniversary of the Mission Store, a ministry that has served as both a community resource and a vital source of funding for Mission Lexington’s programs since opening in 1981. The community is invited to participate in this special day of celebration and savings.

For more than four decades, the Mission Store has transformed donated goods into hope for neighbors in need. Every donation, every purchase, and every volunteer hour helps support Mission Lexington’s mission of neighbors helping neighbors, providing food assistance, clothing, emergency financial support, and other essential services to individuals and families throughout Lexington County.

“The Mission Store is so much more than a thrift store,” said Amy Reeves, CEO, “It’s a place where generosity changes lives. Every item donated and every purchase made helps us provide hope and practical assistance to our neighbors when they need it most.”

Mission Lexington serves thousands of people each year through programs that address food insecurity, financial hardship, and other urgent needs. In the past year alone, the organization distributed more than $2.5 million in groceries, provided $90,000 in rental and mortgage assistance, and supplied $383,000 in essential items. Mission Lexington met more than 69,000 individual needs across Lexington County.

Beyond funding Mission Lexington’s programs, the Mission Store serves as a critical resource for families experiencing a crisis. Whether responding to a house fire, flooding, or another unexpected disaster, the store helps provide clothing, furniture, household goods, and other essential items to help families begin again. Every donation and every purchase helps ensure those resources are available when our neighbors need them most.

The community is invited to join the celebration on August 17 with a day of special events at the Mission Store. Guests can also enjoy ice cream from Truly Scrumptious from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
