SCDOT Commences Roadway Resurfacing Along Howard Drive in Fountain Inn
August 12, 2026Local motorists should plan for minor commute delays as infrastructure crews begin work on key roadway stretches near local neighborhoods and school zones. The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) officially launched a milling and paving project along Howard Drive this week.
The municipal improvement effort covers two distinct work areas: the main corridor of Howard Drive extending from North Main Street to the entrance of the West Farm subdivision, as well as a separate repair section on Howard Drive near Bryson Drive.
Contractors initiated the first phase of milling and resurfacing on Monday, with initial prep work expected to take two to three days. SCDOT crews will then follow up with secondary road repairs and final paving. The entire project is anticipated to wrap up within two to three weeks, depending on weather and field conditions.
Traffic & Commuter Impact
-
Intermittent Delays: Drivers should expect periodic single-lane closures and minor traffic slowdowns throughout the work site.
-
School Zone Priority: To help keep local traffic moving smoothly during busy hours, SCDOT plans to restrict or avoid construction during student drop-off and pick-up times at nearby Bryson Middle School whenever possible.
-
Work Zone Safety: Drivers are reminded to exercise caution, watch for highway workers, and allow extra travel time when passing through the area.
The Howard Drive project is part of a broader infrastructure push, standing as one of four local road projects approved for Fountain Inn under SCDOT’s 2026 Pavement Improvement Plan. Additional resurfacing scheduled for this year includes sections of Georgia Road, Harris Bridge Road, and Tractor Drive.
