UFP Packaging investing $5.3 million in Cherokee County, creating 136 jobs

UFP Packaging, an industrial packaging solutions and services provider, is expanding its South Carolina operations with a new manufacturing facility in Cherokee County, a $5.31 million investment expected to create 136 jobs.

The company will establish the facility at 50 Peachview Blvd. in Gaffney, where it will manufacture wood packaging products. Operations are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2027.

Headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, UFP Packaging designs and manufactures packaging solutions including wood pallets and crates, corrugated boxes, structural steel packaging and horticulture racks. A subsidiary of UFP Industries, the company operates more than 100 locations globally, including two existing facilities in Orangeburg County.

“This investment gives our Structural Packaging business added capacity, expanded geographic reach and enhanced ability to deliver highly customized solutions that help customers solve difficult packaging and logistics challenges,” UFP Industries President and CEO Will Schwartz said. “It also gives us the opportunity to build a team the UFP way — by developing people, promoting from within and creating careers that last.”

Schwartz said South Carolina’s manufacturing base, skilled workforce and business environment made the state a strong fit for the company’s continued growth.

The new Cherokee County operation is expected to strengthen UFP Packaging’s ability to serve industrial customers across the Southeast and beyond, particularly companies with highly technical packaging needs.
