Stockings for US veteran seniors

This December, The Salvation Army of the Midlands is hand-packing a Christmas stocking care package for every resident of the South Carolina State Veterans Nursing Home in Richland County. These are men and women who once answered the call to service for our Country, who left home, wore the uniform, and carried burdens most of us will never be asked to carry. Today they live in long-term care, and for many of them, December looks nothing like the holidays they remember. Spouses have passed. Children live states away. Some go weeks without a visitor; a few have no one left to visit at all.

A stocking will not replace the family they miss. But it says something a veteran deserves to hear: you are not forgotten, and your service still means something to this community. Every stocking is identical and every item inside is chosen for safety in a long-term care setting: fragrance-free, latex-free, no small parts, no choking hazards. Nothing is left to chance, and no one is left out.
