Step Back in Time in Historic Camden, South Carolina (Feb. 3-4, 2027)
My first February getaway is a two-day, one-night motorcoach trip to historic Camden, South Carolina, accompanied by Historian Lee G. Brockington.
Camden’s history stretches back approximately 250 years, from the Revolutionary War era through the antebellum South and into the winter-resort years of the early 1900s. During the American Revolution, the Camden area was at the center of some of the fiercest fighting between American and British forces in the struggle for independence.
In Camden, we will visit the Revolutionary War Visitor Center and tour the historic Kershaw House. After lunch, we continue to the Camden Museum & Archives, where we will learn more about the people and events that shaped this fascinating South Carolina community. 
The following morning begins with an early visit to the stables at Springdale Racecourse, home of the Carolina Cup. We will also enjoy a guided tour of the National Steeplechase Museum, where we will learn about the history and traditions of this exciting equestrian sport.
The Camden trip is $549 per person, based on double occupancy, or $699 for a single traveler. Escape to Jekyll Island & St. Simons Island (February 23 – 26, 2027)
Once a private retreat for some of America’s wealthiest families, Jekyll Island today offers visitors a remarkable combination of history, natural beauty and Southern hospitality. Our group will spend three nights at the historic Jekyll Island Club Resort, surrounded by the grand architecture and beautifully landscaped grounds that recall the island’s Gilded Age past.
On our first day, we will travel by motorcoach to Jekyll Island, arriving at the Jekyll Island Club Resort. With dinner that evening in the Grand Dining Room.
After breakfast the next morning, we will take a guided history tour of the Jekyll Island Club Hotel led by an on-site resort historian who will recount stories of the wealthy families who once made Jekyll Island their winter playground. Later we will visit the Jekyll Island History Museum – Mosaic, followed by High Tea in the Grand Dining Room.
On our final morning, we will visit the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, Georgia’s only hospital devoted to the treatment, research and rehabilitation of sea turtles. Visitors can learn about these remarkable animals, explore exhibits and get a glimpse into the hospital where injured turtles receive treatment.
The Jekyll Island & St. Simons Island getaway is $1,099 per person, based on double occupancy, with a single rate of $1,499. Two Trips, Two Very Different Adventures
These February getaways offer travelers two completely different ways to escape the everyday routine.
Camden provides an opportunity to explore South Carolina history alongside a knowledgeable historian while discovering Revolutionary War sites and the fascinating tradition of steeplechase racing.
Jekyll Island and St. Simons Island offer a more leisurely coastal getaway filled with grand resort history, island scenery, afternoon tea, museums, a trolley tour and the chance to learn about Georgia’s beloved sea turtles.
Both trips have an Activity Level 4, meaning travelers should be comfortable with mostly walking and/or standing for extended periods. Motorcoach pick-up locations for both trips will be available in Pawleys Island, Murrells Inlet and Myrtle Beach.
