Downtown Laurens to host tailgate on the Square for Friday’s rivalry game
August 26, 2026Fans looking for a place to gather during Friday night’s rivalry game will not have to travel far. Main Street Laurens has announced a downtown tailgate on the Square, giving families and friends a spot to watch, eat and cheer together without leaving the historic district.
The event begins at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. Organizers said the game will be broadcast live over the speakers positioned around the Square, so those on the Plaza can follow every play while enjoying the evening downtown.
Cornhole boards will be set up on the Plaza, along with games and activities for children. Organizers encouraged attendees to bring the whole family and to come dressed in their team colors.
Downtown restaurants will be open for supper and drinks ahead of kickoff, and Main Street Laurens is encouraging fans to make a full night of it by grabbing a meal before settling in on the Square.
The tailgate reflects a growing effort by Main Street Laurens to draw residents downtown for shared community moments, using the Square as a gathering place for everything from festivals and markets to Friday night football.
Rivalry week has long been one of the biggest nights on the local calendar, and organizers said the downtown event offers an option for fans who cannot make it to the stadium, as well as for families with young children who want a more relaxed setting.
The tailgate is free and open to the public.
