Safety alert: Goal Zero recalls 46,000 YETI 3000X power stations over fire and burn hazards

Local public safety officials are urging Upstate residents to check their emergency backup equipment following a nationwide recall of portable power stations due to overheating and fire risks.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the voluntary recall of approximately 46,200 Goal Zero YETI 3000X Portable Power Stations. According to federal safety regulators, the internal circuit board can overheat, posing serious fire and burn hazards.

The Fountain Inn Fire Department spotlighted the alert as part of ongoing community safety efforts, reminding residents that staying informed on consumer recalls is a vital first step in preventing household hazards.

Identifying the recalled power stations

The recall impacts all 120V Goal Zero YETI 3000X models sold nationwide between May 2020 and August 2025 at major retailers including REI, Backcountry, Costco.com, and GoalZero.com.

Consumers can identify the units by the following details:

• Appearance: Silver and black 92-pound portable units with yellow handles, front digital displays, and electrical ports mounted on a rolling cart with a telescoping handle.

• Markings: The name “YETI 3000X” appears on the front bar of the cart, on the bottom front of the unit, and on the nameplate located under the top lid.

• Model Identifiers: SKU 36400 and UPC 847974007563.

Goal Zero has received four reports of the power stations catching fire, overheating, or smoking. No injuries have been reported to date.

What owners should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the power stations and install a free firmware repair through the Goal Zero App on iOS or Android. The digital update serves as the official remedy and does not require physically returning the 92-pound station to a store.

Owners can connect the unit to Wi-Fi via the app and navigate to Settings > Firmware Update to complete the installation.
