Spartanburg Science Center welcomes new Executive Director

The Spartanburg Science Center (SSC) announced Amanda Richardson as its new Executive Director, effective July 20, 2026. Richardson steps into the role as SSC gears up for one of its most active fall seasons yet with new robotics sessions, hands-on medical exploration for kids, free aviation training for teens, and more, all designed to get the Upstate excited about STEM.
Richardson is a Wofford College graduate with a background in nonprofit management and fundraising, most recently serving as Vice President with United Way of the Piedmont.
“My family and I have loved the Science Center for years, so I couldn’t be more excited to lead it into its next chapter. This is a place where kids get to touch, build, and question the world around them. It’s a joy to provide that type of hands-on exploration to as many kids as possible,” said Amanda Richardson, Executive Director.
SSC also extends its heartfelt thanks to outgoing Executive Director Mary A. Levens, whose leadership and dedication to STEM education in Spartanburg leave a lasting legacy.
