Harvest Hope names Sy Hughes as CEO

The Harvest Hope Food Bank Board of Directors announced today that Sy Hughes has been named Chief Executive Officer, following his service as Interim CEO since January 2026.
Hughes joined Harvest Hope in November 2025 as Vice President of Resource Development and Engagement. Since stepping into the interim leadership role, he has worked closely with staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners to advance the organization’s mission of providing food and hope to neighbors experiencing food insecurity across the 20 counties it serves.
Prior to joining Harvest Hope, Hughes spent more than a decade in leadership roles supporting mission-driven organizations, most recently serving with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), where he helped lead initiatives focused on community engagement, resource development, and organizational growth.

Harvest Hope Board Chair, David Zalesne, said the board is confident Hughes is the right leader to guide the organization into its next chapter.

Sy has demonstrated that he understands both the responsibility of leading the organization and the importance of working with staff, partners, volunteers, agencies, donors, and communities on Harvest Hope’s critical mission. Hughes assumes this role during a time of increasing need across South Carolina. Food insecurity continues to rise, impacting families, children, and seniors in communities throughout the state. As CEO, Hughes plans to build on Harvest Hope’s strong foundation by expanding services, strengthening community programs and partnerships, and deepening collaboration with the organization’s network of more than 300 local food pantries.
Under Hughes’ leadership, Harvest Hope will continue its focus on increasing food access, addressing the root causes of hunger, and ensuring that more neighbors across South Carolina have the resources they need to thrive.
