SC Ports strengthens access to South America for shippers
August 27, 2026South Carolina Ports has expanded shipping capacity between Charleston and key South American markets, offering six weekly services to and from the region.
The Port of Charleston’s addition to CMA CGM’s AMERXL service provides Southeast shippers with direct access to major ports in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Chile. The weekly service offers competitive transit times and additional refrigerated cargo capacity.
The expanded service benefits importers of seafood, produce and flowers while providing U.S. exporters with greater access to South American markets for poultry and other protein products.
The expansion comes as population and economic growth in the Southeast continue to outpace much of the country, increasing demand for refrigerated cargo capacity. SC Ports offers more than 2,000 refrigerated container slots along with nearby cold-storage facilities.
Southbound transit times on the AMERXL service range from five to 17 days. The rotation includes Port Everglades, Philadelphia, New York, Charleston, Cartagena, Guayaquil, Callao and San Antonio.
