Charleston County launches public Transportation Sales Tax dashboard detailing nearly $1 billion in road investments

Charleston County Government is making it easier for residents to see how existing Transportation Sales Tax dollars are being invested across the community with the launch of a new public dashboard(opens in new tab) that provides detailed, up-to-date information on nearly 500 road projects across Charleston County.

What’s in the dashboard?

The interactive dashboard currently includes 490 road projects, including 400 completed projects and 90 active projects, representing nearly $1 billion in road investments from the first and second Transportation Sales Tax.

Residents can use it to:

• Explore projects by type, including intersection, paving, bicycle and pedestrian, and more.
• Search by location, including general area, municipality, and County Council district.
• Filter by program, including the first or second Transportation Sales Tax.
• Filter by status to view active or completed projects.
• Review project details, including funding, scope, status, timeline, and other key information.

“The Transportation Sales Tax represents a significant investment in the roads and connections our communities rely on every day,” said Joe Boykin, Charleston County Council Chairman. “With that investment comes a responsibility to be good stewards of those dollars and to be transparent about the work they make possible. This dashboard gives residents an unprecedented look at those investments and at the remarkable impact they’re having across our county.”

In addition to project-level information, the dashboard also provides a high-level overview of the existing Transportation Sales Tax program and its accomplishments since it began in 2004. Residents can use the dashboard to see the broader impact of the program and how TST investments have helped improve transportation infrastructure throughout the county.

The dashboard will be updated regularly to provide the public with the most current information available.

Public Demonstration

Charleston County Public Works will host a public demonstration and walkthrough of the dashboard and its features on Tuesday, Sept. 15, from noon to 1 p.m. at the department’s headquarters, located at 3681 Leeds Ave., North Charleston.

During the walkthrough, Public Works leaders will demonstrate how to navigate the dashboard, search and filter projects, and find information about project funding, scope, status, timelines, and other details. Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the information available within the dashboard.
