Rock of Ages set for three free nights at Mauldin amphitheater

The Mauldin Cultural Center Amphitheater will be transformed into an outdoor arena rock concert next month when “Rock of Ages” takes the stage for three free performances Oct. 2-4.
Each show begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free, and the production is presented by Prisma Health.
The jukebox musical is built on the hard rock anthems that defined the 1980s, with a set list drawn from Journey, Bon Jovi, Foreigner, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister and Whitesnake, among others. Rather than relying on recorded tracks, the Mauldin production will be backed by a live band and staged as a full-scale outdoor show under the lights.
The Mauldin Cultural Center is encouraging theater goers to arrive early and make an evening of it. Food will be available on site, a vintage market will be set up for shopping, and pre-show activities are planned before the performance begins.
Audience participation is part of the appeal. The score is stacked with songs most people in the crowd already know by heart, and singing along is not only permitted but expected.
The three-night run continues the Mauldin Cultural Center’s practice of offering large-scale, no-cost programming at the amphitheater, which has become one of the Golden Strip’s primary gathering spots for outdoor entertainment.
