Ignite Theatrical brings Broadway musical ‘Newsies’ to the Younts Center stage opening this Friday

September 7, 2026

The energetic, Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Newsies arrives in the Upstate opening this Friday, September 11, with Ignite Theatrical mounting a full stage run at the Younts Center for Performing Arts that continues through September 26.

Based on the 1992 Disney film and inspired by the real-life New York City Newsboys’ Strike of 1899, Newsies tells the David-and-Goliath story of young paper sellers who organize against unfair distribution price hikes enacted by publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst. Led by charismatic strike leader Jack Kelly, the underdog group rallies to fight for fair wages, dignity, and their future.

The stage adaptation features music by Academy Award-winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and a book by Harvey Fierstein, showcasing fan-favorite anthems such as “Seize the Day,” “Carrying the Banner,” and “King of New York,” paired with large-scale, athletic choreography.

Performances will take place at the Younts Center for Performing Arts, located at 315 N. Main Street in Fountain Inn.

Tickets and performance showtimes are available directly through the box office or online at yountscenter.org(opens in new tab).
