After-hours art event Overdue celebrates 10 years at Richland Library

September 18 event marks a decade since Studio Services opened at Richland Library Main
Richland Library Main will come alive after hours with art, music, and hands-on creativity on Friday, September 18, from 7 to 11 p.m. for Overdue. The event is free and open to adults ages 18 and older with a valid ID.

This year’s event marks 10 years since the opening of Studio Services on the second level of Richland Library Main, introducing dedicated spaces for making, recording, producing, and creating. The first Overdue kicked off the opening in 2016, giving adults an after-hours introduction to the library’s new creative resources.
“It’s been a joy to watch customers experience these spaces in such fun and creative ways over the past 10 years, ” said Mary Kate Quillivan, Studio Services Manager at Richland Library. “Overdue has always pushed the idea of what a library can be for its community. It’s loud, creative, experimental, and just plain fun. Even after 10 years, we still hear ‘I had no idea the library has spaces like this!'”
This year’s Overdue will feature community zine making, a paint-by-numbers community mural by former Richland Library Artist-in-Residence Marius Valdes, a blacklight scavenger hunt, and more. Live music performances by Gaydream and Darby Wilcox will take place throughout the evening, with food and drinks available in the café from Curiosity Coffee Bar.
