Lowcountry Literacy Project names Katie Prechter Director of Operations

September 11, 2026

Lowcountry Literacy Project has named Katie Prechter its new Director of Operations. In this role, Prechter will lead organizational operations, strengthen internal systems, and support the nonprofit’s continued growth across the Lowcountry.

Prechter is a marketing and operations leader with more than 20 years of experience developing brand and marketing strategy, leading teams, managing complex initiatives, and building the systems that enable organizations to grow. Throughout her career, she has led marketing and communications efforts, managed multimillion-dollar budgets and cross-functional teams, and developed the partnerships, processes, and strategies that strengthen organizations and drive long-term growth.

“Katie joins us at an important moment in our growth,” said Lindsey Ballenger, Executive Director of Lowcountry Literacy Project. “As we expand our work to reach more educators, schools, and students, we must also build the infrastructure needed to sustain that impact. Katie brings the experience, strategic thinking, and leadership that will help us move confidently into this next chapter.”

During the 2026–2027 school year, Lowcountry Literacy Project will support nearly 290 trained educators working across more than 26 schools, three school districts, and two charter schools. Prechter will help oversee the systems and processes needed to support that expanding work while helping the organization strengthen its visibility.

“I’m honored to join Lowcountry Literacy Project at a time when the organization is growing its reach and deepening its impact,” said Prechter. “Strong organizations are built on strong systems, and I’m excited to bring my experience in operations, strategy, and team leadership to help create the foundation for sustainable growth. Most importantly, I’m proud to be part of work that helps equip teachers and give more children the opportunity to become confident, capable readers.”
