Newberry College launches Tuition Advantage, offering 100% tuition coverage for eligible South Carolina students

New initiative expands access to a private college education for South Carolina families earning $100,000 or less.

Newberry College, routinely recognized as a U.S. News & World Report Best Value College and a leader in its students’ return on investment, is making a private college education more accessible to South Carolina families with the launch of the Newberry Tuition Advantage, which will provide 100% undergraduate tuition coverage for eligible South Carolina students beginning fall 2027.

New first-year and transfer-qualifying students who are South Carolina residents and have a family adjusted gross income of $100,000 or less as determined by FAFSA, will be eligible to have 100% of their undergraduate tuition covered after applicable state and federal grants are applied. Eligible students may receive the benefit for up to four years, or eight semesters with continuous enrollment.

“Cost should not prevent talented South Carolina students from considering the opportunities a private college education can provide,” said David Harpool, president of Newberry College. “The Newberry Tuition Advantage represents an investment in South Carolina students and families and reinforces our commitment to making an exceptional, personal college experience accessible to more students across our state.”

The initiative also challenges a common assumption among families considering college: that a private college education is automatically financially out of reach.

Through the Newberry Tuition Advantage, eligible students can experience Newberry’s close-knit campus community, personal attention, and opportunities for academic and professional growth while having their undergraduate tuition fully covered.
The program is available to both new first-year and transfer-qualifying students, who enroll full-time in an undergraduate program at Newberry College as a residential student, creating another affordable pathway for South Carolinians seeking to begin or complete a bachelor’s degree.

“South Carolina families shouldn’t assume a private college education is out of reach,” Harpool said. “For eligible South Carolina students, the Newberry Tuition Advantage changes that conversation. We want families to understand what their actual cost could be and explore Newberry before deciding what’s financially possible.”

Students must meet all eligibility requirements and complete the required financial aid process to qualify. The Newberry Tuition Advantage applies to undergraduate tuition only and does not cover housing, meals, fees, or other expenses. Current Newberry students will continue to receive the maximum financial aid available to them as part of the College’s ongoing commitment to affordability.
