Classic drama ‘Our Town’ takes the stage for limited weekend run

Local theatre audiences will have the chance to experience a cornerstone of American drama later this month, as Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize-winning classic Our Town opens for a four-performance run from Sept. 25 through Sept. 27, 2026.

The production opens Friday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m. Additional showtimes include a Saturday matinee on Sept. 26 at 2:00 p.m., an evening staging on Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m., and a closing Sunday matinee on Sept. 27 at 3:00 p.m.

Once hailed by playwright Edward Albee as “the greatest American play ever written,” Our Town chronicles the quiet rhythms of the fictional community of Grover’s Corners across three distinct acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage,” and “Death and Eternity.” Guided by an omniscient Stage Manager, the production relies on minimal props and set pieces, drawing audiences into an intimate portrait of the Webb and Gibbs families. Through the blossoming romance and marriage of George Gibbs and Emily Webb, the narrative builds toward one of theatre’s most enduring examinations of mortality and the fleeting beauty of everyday life.

Wilder’s stripped-down staging techniques remain an influential milestone in 20th-century theatre, focusing attention squarely on character, community, and human connection.
