Early Screenings Save Lives: Why mammograms matter and how you can join the fight
September 14, 2026Breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers affecting women, but early detection through regular screenings significantly improves treatment outcomes and survival rates.
According to health guidelines, women at an average risk of breast cancer should begin scheduling annual mammograms starting at age 40. A mammogram is a quick, vital screening tool that can detect changes in breast tissue long before physical symptoms appear.
To highlight the importance of early detection and honor those impacted by breast cancer, the annual In the Pink breast cancer awareness walk is returning to Brookgreen Gardens on October 10. For over two decades, community members have gathered at this event to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones, and show solidarity for those currently fighting breast cancer.
Registration is now open, but space for the walk is limited. You can learn more and reserve your spot today by visiting the In the Pink Event Registration Page(opens in new tab).
