South Carolina Water Utilities investing in Valley Brook wastewater infrastructure
September 15, 2026Improvements will strengthen system reliability and support long-term wastewater service in Anderson County
ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. — South Carolina Water Utilities (SCWU)(opens in new tab) is making a series of infrastructure improvements to its Valley Brook wastewater system in Anderson County as part of the utility’s ongoing investment in reliable, high-quality service for customers across South Carolina.
Work currently underway includes replacing the wastewater treatment plant’s existing bar screen, a critical piece of equipment that removes larger solids early in the treatment process and helps protect downstream equipment. SCWU is also completing additional upgrades throughout the facility designed to improve operational efficiency, reduce the risk of equipment-related disruptions and strengthen the system’s ability to provide reliable wastewater service to Valley Brook customers.
In addition to the treatment plant improvements, SCWU has completed a comprehensive inspection of the Valley Brook sewer system using television and line-jetting to evaluate the condition of the underground infrastructure. That work identified several areas in need of attention, and crews are now making targeted repairs to address those issues before they become larger problems. The proactive work is intended to improve system performance, reduce the risk of service issues, and extend the useful life of the community’s wastewater infrastructure.
“These investments are part of our continued focus on proactively maintaining and improving the systems our customers rely on every day,” said SCWU President Craig Sorensen. “By identifying needs early and making targeted infrastructure improvements, we can reduce the potential for disruptions, strengthen reliability and position the Valley Brook system to serve the community well into the future.”
South Carolina Water Utilities is the state’s largest private water and wastewater utility, serving customers across the Lowcountry, Midlands, Piedmont and Upstate. Earlier this year, SCWU completed its consolidation with Blue Granite Water Company, bringing more than 70,000 customer connections under a single utility system in the largest water utility consolidation in South Carolina history.
