Anytime Fitness opens in Clinton with ribbon cutting set for Sept. 22

Clinton has a new gym, and its owners want it to be more than a place to work out. They want it to be a place where people of every fitness level, from lifelong athletes to first timers, can come together around health and strength.
Anytime Fitness Clinton is now open at 100 Laurens St., owned and operated by Greenville-based Baleo Fitness. The club will hold a ribbon cutting at noon Sept. 22, and the public is invited.
“We love Clinton,” said Mike Chere, co-owner of the Clinton club with business partner John Christopher. “We believe every community deserves a great gym that’s clean, friendly and well maintained. Our goal is for this to be Clinton’s gym, a place where everyone feels welcome and can be part of a community.”
Chere brings a mix of military, athletic and business experience to the venture. He is an Army veteran and a former college athlete who went on to business school and spent much of his career in management consulting.
“I’ve always had a passion for health and wellness,” he said. “We’re headquartered in Greenville and love continuing to invest in communities across South Carolina.”
The club offers cardio and strength equipment, free weights, functional training space, group classes and personal training. Members have secure 24 hour access, along with reciprocal access to roughly 2,400 Anytime Fitness locations in the United States and about 6,000 worldwide.
Still, Chere said the equipment is not what he is most excited about.
“More than anything, I’m excited about the environment,” he said. “It’s a clean, welcoming space with a great team.”
That team is two people deep and local. Marcus Anthony serves as general manager, overseeing the club and member experience, and Teal Edwards leads personal training, group classes and coaching support.
“They’re a great dynamic duo, and we’re really excited to have them leading Anytime Fitness Clinton,” Chere said.
New members can meet with a coach for a fitness consultation and an Evolt body composition scan, and membership includes access to the Anytime Fitness app for workouts and goal tracking. Small group and one-on-one personal training are available as added services.
The club is currently offering a founders rate of $1 to join and $20 biweekly.
Asked who the gym is built for, Chere did not narrow the answer.
“Everybody,” he said. “Whether you’ve worked out your whole life or you’re walking into a gym for the first time, we want you to feel comfortable here. Anytime Fitness is an approachable place for anyone on a health and wellness journey.”
He said he hopes members come to see the club as part of the fabric of the community, with staff involved locally and the gym itself serving as a place where relationships are built.
“We’re just excited to be in Clinton,” he said. “You get the community feel of a local gym with access to thousands of Anytime Fitness locations around the world. We can’t wait to become part of the community.”
