GFWC Golden Strip Club donates carts of potatoes to Center for Community Services

In celebration of National Potato Month this September, the GFWC Golden Strip Club organized a targeted food drive to support local families served by the Center for Community Services.

During the club’s recent general meeting, members collected bags of fresh potatoes, canned potatoes, and instant boxed varieties, completely filling a utility cart for delivery to the center’s pantry program. The donation drive also received a boost from the visiting GFWC Upstate District President, who brought an additional contribution to bolster the community effort.

“So proud of the contributions that the GFWC Golden Strip club makes to the community,” said club President Caroline Mahaffey.

The potato collection is part of an ongoing community outreach effort by the Golden Strip chapter, an affiliate of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC)—an international volunteer service organization operating across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 12 countries.

Upcoming Service Projects

The club has several community initiatives slated for the autumn months:

• International Day of Service (Sept. 26): Club members will volunteer on-site at the Safe Harbor warehouse to support local domestic violence awareness, shelter, and prevention initiatives.

• Ongoing Food Assistance: Continued routine collections of nonperishable pantry items for the Center for Community Services.

• Holiday Fair Concessions (Nov. 7): Members will host and operate concession sales during the annual community holiday market.
