SAFE Federal Credit Union acquires 26,000 square foot campus for expansion

SAFE Federal Credit Union announced the purchase of a 26,000-square-foot satellite campus in Columbia, South Carolina. The purchase is a major milestone in the credit union’s growth strategy and commitment to member service.
Located at 10 Science Court,(opens in new tab) the newly acquired property will provide expanded office space, enhanced operational capabilities, and room for future employee growth as the company continues to invest in the Columbia market.
“This acquisition is an exciting step forward for SAFE,” said President and CEO Michael Baker. “While our operations and administration will remain headquartered in Sumter, this new campus will be a regional hub for call center support, training, and other key services. It also will be a valuable back-up to help us continue operating in the event of a natural disaster.”
The expansion underscores SAFE’s confidence in the Columbia market and its commitment to expanding its presence and services across the South Carolina Midlands.
“We view this investment as both a commitment to our future and a commitment to the communities we serve,” said SAFE’s Board Chair, Dr. Kay Oldhouser Davis. “As we continue to grow, this campus will help us attract top talent, grow new business opportunities, and better serve our members throughout the region.”
The purchase is SAFE’s latest investment in the Columbia area and will soon be joined by a full remodeling of the credit union’s branch at 595 St. Andrews Road. SAFE currently operates seven branches throughout the Columbia market and nineteen branches across its seven-county footprint.
Initial occupancy is anticipated in mid-to-late 2027 once renovations to the property are complete.
