Fandom Fest returns to Southern Georgetown Library Oct. 10

Fandom Fest, a celebration of fandom culture, creativity and community, will return to the Southern Georgetown Community Library next month for its second year.
Sponsored by the Friends of the Southern Georgetown Community Library(opens in new tab), the event invites fans of all ages to share their interests with one another from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the library, 4187 Powell Road, Georgetown. In the event of inclement weather, Fandom Fest will be held Saturday, Oct. 17.
Organizers said the event is geared toward all fan communities, whether Whovians, Disney devotees, Jedi, Trekkies, Pokémon trainers or anything else. Attendees can enjoy cosplay contests, trivia, fandom exhibits, karaoke, selfie stations and more in a fun, inclusive atmosphere.
“We were thrilled by the incredible turnout and enthusiasm at our first Fandom Fest, and we knew we had to bring it back even bigger and better,” said Sharea Drayton, branch manager. “This event is about more than just celebrating pop culture — it’s about creating a space where people can share their passions, discover new interests and connect with others in a welcoming environment. Libraries are community hubs, and Fandom Fest reflects that by blending creativity, learning and fun. We want everyone to feel like they belong here, whether they’re in costume or just curious about fandom culture.”
This year’s event is scheduled to take place on World Mental Health Day(opens in new tab) and children’s assistant Ashley Reed said that’s fitting.
“That makes it particularly meaningful to celebrate the positive impact that creativity, connection and a sense of belonging can have on our well-being,” she said. “I am excited to see our community come together to make new connections, express themselves and simply enjoy being fans.”
