Barbara Stone Foundation celebrates Wade Hampton High School students’ impact through spirit week fundraiser

Weeklong event raises $270,000 to support equitable opportunities for individuals with disabilities in Greenville County

The Barbara Stone Foundation (BSF) is celebrating the conclusion of Wade Hampton High School’s Spirit Week, a student-led fundraiser that brings students, staff, families and the community together to support a local nonprofit organization. BSF was selected as the annual event’s exclusive nonprofit beneficiary, with 100% of funds raised through the weeklong, student-led celebration going directly to the Foundation. Through its work, BSF helps create equitable opportunities for individuals with disabilities, including supporting students as they transition from high school toward greater independence.

The weeklong celebration kicked off with a student pep rally and introduction to the Barbara Stone Foundation, followed by a sports camp, talent show, and a variety of sporting events. The week culminated at the Wade Hampton home football game with a final check presentation, celebrating the powerful impact of students, staff, and families who came together to raise $270,020 for BSF.

The funds raised will support BSF’s ongoing work to influence community policies and culture in an effort to create more equitable opportunities for individuals with disabilities by providing sustainable support for programs and initiatives. Donations will directly expand access to employment support through the UP Employment Initiative, the Road to Possibilities – Opportunity Fair, CAN Talks and Access GVL. Through community partnerships, fundraising and innovative initiatives, the Foundation works to champion individuals with disabilities and advance inclusion, independence and greater opportunity throughout Greenville County.

Founded in 1991, the Barbara Stone Foundation works to influence community systems, policies and culture to create equitable opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The Foundation has awarded more than $450,000 through its Community Innovations Grants, launched the UP Employment Initiative, produced CAN Talks, partnered with the City of Greenville to launch Access GVL, and convened more than 40 organizations through Greenville CAN.
