GFWC Golden Strip and Upstate woman’s clubs partner to support Safe Harbor on International Day of Service

September 30, 2026

Volunteers from the GFWC Golden Strip Club and the GFWC Upstate Woman’s Club joined forces this past weekend to bolster shelter and transitional support for families rebuilding their lives after domestic abuse.

In observance of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) International Day of Service on Saturday, September 26, 2026, members of the two Upstate organizations dedicated their morning to hands-on service at the Safe Harbor warehouse.

United under the global initiative’s central focus—ending domestic and sexual violence through “one day, one purpose, and one voice for lasting change”—13 club members worked side-by-side to organize critical resources for survivors.

During the event, volunteers sorted incoming donations of toiletries, toys, diapers, bedding, and essential household goods. The team inspected product expiration dates to ensure safety, assembled welcome gift bags for children arriving at emergency shelters, and restructured warehouse storage to streamline daily logistics. The updated layout ensures Safe Harbor staff can immediately access vital supplies for crisis intake as well as for women and children preparing to take the next step into independent, permanent housing.

The effort marked the second consecutive year the GFWC Golden Strip Club and GFWC Upstate Woman’s Club have partnered to assist Safe Harbor, a regional nonprofit providing crisis intervention, emergency shelters, and long-term advocacy for individuals and families impacted by domestic abuse.

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs is an international volunteer organization encompassing state federations in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 21 affiliate clubs across 12 countries. Beyond nationwide advocacy for domestic violence awareness, prevention, and child welfare, local chapters direct community projects in the arts, education, environmental conservation, and civic leadership.
