Genealogical society to explore Laurens native’s Revolutionary War legacy at Oct. 8 meeting

October 4, 2026

The Laurens District Genealogical Society will host its next meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Laurens County Museum, featuring a presentation on the Carolina Rising Museum.

Leigh Ann Moon will lead the program, sharing the story of the Carolina Rising Museum, which serves as the burial place of Gen. James Williams, a Laurens native. Moon will also discuss other notable figures from Laurens and the role the South Carolina backcountry played in the Revolutionary War.

The program offers residents a chance to learn more about the area’s connections to the nation’s fight for independence, a topic drawing renewed interest as communities across the country mark the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.

The meeting is free and open to the public, and organizers say all are welcome to attend.

The Laurens County Museum is located at 116 S. Public Square in Laurens. For more information or questions, call 864-684-3033.
