United FC and Greenville Community celebrate new turf soccer field at Herdklotz Park

$1.4 million Greenville County project expands opportunities for youth soccer with modern turf field

United FC players, families and members of the local soccer community today celebrated the unveiling of a new turf soccer field at Herdklotz Park, a $1.4 million Greenville County project that gives young athletes a modern playing surface for practices and competition.

The field features modern turfing and a design that helps limit surface heat during warm-weather play. Greenville County drew on expertise from the local soccer community to guide the field’s size and selection of the playing surface, with a focus on the demands of regular soccer practices and games.

“A great field becomes part of a player’s development, from the work they put in at practice to the confidence they build in competition,” said Bill Martin, executive director of United FC. “This is an exciting addition for our families and the local soccer community. We’re grateful to Greenville County for investing in a place where kids can grow as players and teammates.”

The county-owned field is available for rental by United FC and other community groups, supporting organized practices and games for local players. It will serve thousands young athletes each week and accommodate hundreds of practices and games annually.

“Investing in our parks is an investment in what makes Greenville County a great place to live,” said Greenville County Council member Frank Farmer. “This project strengthens a park that already means a great deal to local families. We’re proud to support it and look forward to seeing this field full of activity for years to come.”

Martin and Farmer joined players, families and community representatives for the celebration, which took place alongside evening practices.

Final hydro-seeding and site work around the field are wrapping up this fall. Herdklotz Park is located at 126 Beverly Road, off Rutherford Road in Greenville and is operated by Greenville County Parks, Recreation and Tourism.
