Richland County seeks election workers, shares early voting information

October 14, 2026

Richland County is asking residents to consider working the polls during the Statewide General Election on Nov. 3.

People are needed to fill the roles of election workers. Anyone interested in serving in this position must attend a mandatory three-hour training. After completing the training and one day of work, the person will receive a stipend of $185.

Close to 600 people have completed training since Oct. 5, but the County needs about twice that number to efficiently manage and run all polling locations.

“Democracy is not just a right we hold – it is a responsibility we share,” said Travis Alexander, Voter Registration and Elections director for Richland County. “Honor our civic duty. Serve our community. Become an election worker.”

What to Know Before You Vote

Early voting for the Statewide General Election is from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19 through Saturday, Oct. 31. Residents are encouraged to vote early in order to avoid long lines on Election Day.

To ensure accurate and reliable information for all voters, the County encourages the public to obtain voting and election details from official government channels, recognized election authorities and reputable news outlets. Verified sources will provide the most recent and credible updates on voting procedures, candidate information and election processes.

Richland County urges the public to disregard false claims that any writing on a ballot will cause a ballot to be disqualified. While election workers should not write or make marks on a voter’s ballot, if this happens, the ballot will still be scanned, and the voter’s selections will be counted according to established election procedures.
