Coastal Carolina National Bank and Beacon complete merger, expanding regional banking network

October 14, 2026

Combined institution has $2.3 billion in assets and a footprint spanning the coastal Carolinas and South Carolina’s Upstate

Coastal Carolina Bancshares Inc., the parent company of Coastal Carolina National Bank, has completed its merger with Beacon Holding Company Inc., bringing together two community banking organizations serving markets across South Carolina and coastal North Carolina.

The Charleston-based company announced the completion of the merger Oct. 1. Beacon Holding Company, the parent company of Beacon Community Bank, merged into Coastal Carolina Bancshares, with Coastal continuing as the surviving corporation.

For Beaufort-area residents and businesses, the merger highlights continued consolidation and growth among regional banking institutions serving South Carolina’s coastal communities. The combined organization’s expanded presence could create opportunities for businesses seeking financing and customers looking for banking services, although the company has not announced specific changes affecting Beaufort County.

Following the merger, Beacon’s branches will operate as Beacon Community Bank, a division of Coastal Carolina National Bank. The company plans to convert Beacon’s core banking systems and operations to Coastal’s platform in early 2027, when the bank is scheduled to be rebranded as Beacon Bank, N.A.

Coastal Carolina Bancshares will continue trading on the OTCQX market under the ticker symbol CCNB.

A larger regional banking organization

The combined institution has approximately $2.3 billion in total assets, $2 billion in deposits and $1.8 billion in loans. Its network includes 16 branches and a loan production office serving markets from Charleston to Wilmington, North Carolina, as well as South Carolina’s Upstate.

Coastal Carolina National Bank operates branches in communities including Charleston, Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, Spartanburg, Aiken and Orangeburg. The bank also serves customers in Georgetown and other coastal markets.

The expanded network positions the institution to serve individuals and small and midsize businesses across a broader geographic area.

For Beaufort County’s business community, access to regional banking institutions can be an important consideration as companies finance expansions, manage cash flow and invest in commercial property. However, the merger announcement did not identify new branches, lending commitments or operational changes specifically planned for Beaufort, Bluffton, Hilton Head Island or Port Royal.

Focus on community banking

Laurence S. Bolchoz, president and CEO of Coastal Carolina Bancshares and Coastal Carolina National Bank, said the merger brings together two institutions with similar values and a shared commitment to customer service.

The combination, he said, is intended to strengthen the organization’s long-term growth prospects while benefiting customers, employees, shareholders and the communities it serves.

Both institutions have emphasized personalized service and banking solutions for individuals and small and midsize businesses.

As the integration moves forward, customers will be watching for updates on branch operations, banking technology, products and services. The planned systems conversion in early 2027 represents a key milestone in combining the two organizations.
