Capturing the Wild: Master Wildlife Photography at Brookgreen Gardens with Ron Magill

October 20, 2026

Photographers and nature lovers have a rare opportunity to sharpen their skills alongside one of the nation’s premier wildlife experts. Brookgreen Gardens is hosting “Capturing the Wild,” an exclusive, early-morning photography workshop led by renowned photographer and conservationist Ron Magill.

The special guided experience takes place on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM in Brookgreen’s Lowcountry Zoo area.

By starting bright and early at 7:00 AM, participants will take full advantage of the soft morning light and peak animal activity. Throughout the two-and-a-half-hour workshop, Magill will share practical techniques for creating compelling images, covering:

  • Lighting & Composition: How to utilize golden morning light and frame captivating shots.

  • Perspective & Animal Behavior: Anticipating wildlife movements to capture rare, dynamic moments.

  • Ethics & Patience: Drawing from decades of experience photographing animals across the globe, Magill will guide attendees on ethical wildlife practices and the art of patient observation.

Rather than simply documenting a subject, participants will put these hands-on methods into practice while exploring Brookgreen’s native wildlife, learning how to create powerful images that tell a story.
