Laurens County attorney Michanna Tate plans new law firm as she seeks District 14 House seat
October 20, 2026Attorney Michanna Talley Tate announces the future opening of Access Law of Laurens, LLC, a South Carolina law firm focused primarily on real estate litigation, personal injury, and medical malpractice. Tate, who is also the Democratic candidate for South Carolina House of Representatives District 14, continues her work as an attorney and small business owner while seeking to represent Laurens County residents in the State House.
“People deserve to have their concerns heard and their legal options clearly explained,” said Tate. “Opening Access Law of Laurens is an opportunity to continue serving people through the practice of law. My candidacy for the State House comes from that same commitment to listening to people, understanding the challenges they face, and working toward practical solutions.”
From the Courtroom to the State House
In addition to her legal practice, Tate is running for the South Carolina House of Representatives, District 14, seeking to represent Laurens County in the South Carolina General Assembly.
As an attorney, former prosecutor, former professor, former scientist, and small business owner, Tate brings experience from multiple professional fields to her candidacy. She has emphasized education, support for small businesses, and the economic concerns of local families as important issues affecting the community.
Tate’s experience in law has also shaped her interest in public service. Her work requires careful examination of facts, an understanding of legal rights and responsibilities, and the ability to advocate for clients navigating complex systems.
“I understand that the decisions made in Columbia have real consequences for people here at home,” Tate said. “As a lawyer, I see how laws and policies affect individuals and families. As a small business owner, I understand the work it takes to build and sustain a business. And as aformer professor, I recognize the importance of preparing the next generation for success.”
Legal Needs in the Laurens Community
Tate’s law firm and political campaign are separate endeavors, but both reflect her ongoing involvement in the community and her interest in addressing the challenges residents face.
Access to legal representation is a critical need in Laurens County, where residents deserve the same opportunity to obtain legal help as people living in larger towns and cities. According to South Carolina Bar date, in 2021 Laurens County only had twelve (12) private attorneys. A number that has likely decreased due to retirement of older attorneys. Every person deserves a fair opportunity to understand their rights and have an advocate when they need one.
Tate said “I already have clients driving from Laurens, Union, and Newberry counties to my office in Greenville. My dad was a lawyer, and I took over his office building in 2022, following his passing. Tate went on to say “While working at KOT we notarize legal documents for residents. It is amazing to see how many residents of Laurens are having to utilize the services of attorneys outside of Laurens, with many being outside of the Upstate. I want to provide them with legal representation provided by someone close by they can actually engage with face to face.”
Although the office location is still to be determined, the opening of Access Law of Laurens will add a new chapter to Tate’s professional work, as she continues meeting with residents and discussing the issues important to the district ahead of and even after the November 3, 2026, general election.
