Fountain Inn parks and rec expands family programming, kicking off new season at activities center

Fountain Inn’s Parks and Recreation Department is broadening its community footprint, turning its neighborhood activity hub into a shared space for all generations with an expanded slate of family-centered events.

The initiative kicked into gear on Oct. 9, when the city hosted a fall family gathering at the Fountain Inn Activities Center. The evening drew local families for pumpkin painting, DIY trick-or-treat bag decorating, and a caramel apple bar. In a fun cross-generational twist, participants in the city’s thriving 55+ senior program served as judges to crown the winning painted pumpkins.

Recreation staff described the event as a deliberate move to establish recurring, multi-generational programs alongside traditional youth sports and daily senior wellness clubs.

According to Activities Coordinator Caitlyn Tompkins, providing shared spaces where parents, children, and grandparents can gather addresses a clear need in the community as Fountain Inn continues to attract young families. Rather than running programs in isolation, the department aims to create inclusive environments that bring neighbors together across age groups.

Following the success of the October event, the recreation team is mapping out its winter calendar, which will feature seasonal craft workshops, family game nights, and holiday-themed community gatherings.
