HGTC expands Spring 2027 course offerings in Loris, announces Open House and Registration Event

October 30, 2026

Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is expanding its course offerings at the McLeod Health Loris location for the spring 2027 semester, building on a collaborative initiative launched this fall to bring higher education and workforce training opportunities closer to residents of northwest Horry County.

Spring 2027 course offerings include classes in science, English, mathematics, public speaking, and the humanities, providing students with opportunities to complete general education and prerequisite coursework closer to home. The expanded schedule builds on courses introduced in fall 2026 and offers additional options for students pursuing degrees, preparing for health care careers, or continuing their education.

“Expanding our course offerings in Loris reflects HGTC’s continued commitment to making higher education more accessible to the communities we serve,” said Dr. Lori Heafner, HGTC vice president for academic affairs and incoming president. “Through our partnerships with McLeod Health and Horry County Schools, we are creating more opportunities for students to pursue their educational and career goals closer to home while helping meet the evolving workforce needs of our region.”

To introduce the expanded offerings and assist students with enrollment, HGTC will host an open house and registration event Wednesday, Nov. 4, at The Center for Health & Fitness at McLeod Health Loris, located at 3207 Casey St. in Loris.

The events are designed for both prospective and current HGTC students, with College representatives available to answer questions, discuss course options, and provide assistance with admissions and registration.

Spring 2027 Open House | 2-5 p.m.

Prospective students and families are invited to explore HGTC’s educational opportunities and learn more about the courses available at the Loris location. College representatives will be available to explain the admissions process, answer questions, and assist individuals interested in beginning their college education.

Spring 2027 Registration Event | 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Current HGTC students planning their spring schedules are encouraged to attend the registration event for assistance with course selection and registration. Students will have an opportunity to review available classes and prepare for the upcoming semester.

The expansion builds on a partnership established by HGTC, McLeod Health, and Horry County Schools to increase educational access and support workforce development in northwest Horry County. Classes began at the McLeod Health Loris location in fall 2026, with initial offerings that included general education courses, pre-health care coursework, and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training.

The initiative also established opportunities for eligible seniors from Green Sea Floyds High School and Loris High School to pursue CNA training and earn industry-recognized credentials while completing their high school education.

By continuing to expand course offerings at the Loris location, HGTC is strengthening its commitment to providing affordable, accessible education and workforce training opportunities that meet the evolving needs of students, families, and employers throughout the region.

Whether beginning college for the first time, continuing toward a degree, or preparing for a new career, students are encouraged to explore the opportunities available through HGTC.
