GREENVILLE, SC – May 17, 2012 – A Child’s Haven has received a $57,598 grant from Greenville Women Giving to introduce an evidence-based home visitation model, Family Check-Up, to Greenville County.

A Child’s Haven provides therapeutic intervention and prevention services for families and their young children who experience developmental delays as a result of abuse, neglect or poverty.

During the next year, the grant will fund certification for nine staff. Implementation of the mode will begin for eighteen families. Investing in evidence-based home visitation has a long-term effect on the community

The Family Check-Up model of Home Visitation is a federally-recognized intervention designed to effectively reduce inappropriate behaviors and mental health problems in children, ages 2-17,and increase caregiver motivation. The model is tailored and adaptive, meeting the challenges of each family’s specific needs.

There is compelling evidence to support the effectiveness of evidence-based home visitation services to families. The benefits extend far beyond the family. Based on several long-term studies, the Federal Reserve Bank estimates a $3 return to the public treasury for every $1invested in high-quality, comprehensive treatment for young children and families in crisis.

Begun in 2006, Greenville Women Giving is a philanthropic organization serving Greenville County, that was founded on the idea that women when informed about philanthropy and aboutneeds in their community can collectively make a real difference.

Based in Greenville SC, A Child’s Haven is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of young children who have experienced developmental delays orbehavioral challenges. Many are victims of poverty, child abuse or domestic violence.
