AAF of The Midlands Announces 2009 ADDY® Award Winners

COLUMBIA, SC – March 15, 2009 – The American Advertising Federation (AAF) of The Midlands presented more than 100 ADDY® Awards at the 2009 ADDY Gala at 300 Senate at the Canal in downtown Columbia Saturday, March 14.

The mission of the ADDY Awards competition is to recognize and reward creative excellence in the art of advertising. This year, there were 118 total awards presented, including 33 Gold ADDY Awards, 62 Silver ADDY Awards, four “Best of” ADDY Awards and four Special Judges Awards. In the Student ADDY Competition, there were seven Gold ADDY Awards, and eight Silver ADDY Awards presented.

Some highlights of this year’s ADDY Awards include:

  • Best of Broadcast and Best of Show: Riggs for First Citizens Bank

  • Best of Print: Palmetto Health

  • Best of Interactive: Mad Monkey, Inc.

  • Special Judges Award: Best TV Campaign – Chernoff Newman for Riverbanks Zoo & Garden

  • Special Judges Award: Best Non-traditional Advertising: Student: Sammy Rutkowski for Noxzema

  • Special Judges Award: Excellence in Design – BlueCross BlueShield of SC

  • Special Judges Award: Best use of Refuse – Chernoff Newman for Palmetto Pride Poster

“Winning an ADDY Award is one of the most prestigious professional distinctions that a creative advertising professional can earn,” said Shelley Nazarenko, President of AAF of The Midlands. “To be recognized in this way among your peers is an exciting and significant honor.”

The ADDY competition in Columbia is the first of a three-tiered national competition. Winners at the local level can proceed to the district-level competition, and if successful there, can proceed to compete for a National ADDY Award.
