Administrative Professionals Conference 2009

COLUMBIA, SC – April 7, 2009 – Midlands Technical College Continuing Education is hosting its annual Administrative Professionals Conference on Thursday, April 23, 2009, from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

This conference is designed for anyone who works in an administrative support role. Participants will learn tips and techniques to enhance their professionalism and increase productivity. The conference also provides opportunities to network with other administrative professionals from a variety of organizations.

Judi Gatson of WIS-TV is the emcee for this year’s conference. During her 14 years at WIS, Gatson has distinguished herself as an exceptional journalist and businesswoman. She has received multiple awards from the Associated Press for Business/Consumer and Education Reporting. In addition, she is an active leader in the Midlands community, working with many charitable organizations.

The other dynamic speakers at this year’s conference are Dr. Patrick Hickey, Celeste Jonson, Dr. Anne Matthews, and Merry Taylor.

Hickey has been a clinical assistant professor in the College of Nursing at USC for the past four years, and is the principal of the Capstone Scholars program. Hickey has successfully climbed the highest mountains on the each of the seven continents. In Hickey’s presentation, “Climbing Your Own Everest: The Seven Summits of Your Life,” he will show participants how to find the resources, skills, and support needed to effectively deal with life’s obstacles.

Jonson is president of celeste jonson international, inc., a leadership/personal development company based in Atlanta, Georgia. Her nationally syndicated radio show, Focus on Women, airs in 70 markets. In addition to speaking and coaching individuals, Jonson has authored ten books and recently trained African leaders in Ghana and Kenya. Jonson’s seminar, “It’s All In Your Mind: Enhance Your Thinking for Optimal Success,” will help conference participants understand the enormous impact their thoughts have on their results and to realize the amazing power they already have to boost their productivity and effectiveness.

Matthews is president of Matthews and Associates, a Columbia firm specializing in educational consulting and motivational speaking. Currently, she is an officer of Rotary International and speaks all over the country for the Rotary Foundation. Matthew’s presentation, “The Ls for Living,” shares the pillars of building a happy, successful life. Participants will learn proven techniques for focusing their time and energy on what is truly important, while having fun along the way.

Taylor is owner of Taylor and Associates, which provides inspirational and motivational speakers and trainers for a variety of organizations. For more than 30 years, Taylor has helped people become more effective in handling stress, improving interpersonal communications and increasing their motivation. In Taylor’s presentation, she will share proven tips and techniques from Brian Tracy’s bestseller, “Eat That Frog.” From personal traps to avoid to opportunities to leverage, Taylor will outline a practical approach for setting clear priorities and organizing plans to accomplish more each day.

MTC’s Administrative Professionals Conference is held each year during the national Administrative Professionals Week®, which recognizes the contributions of these professionals to the workforce across the nation.

The registration fee for MTC’s Administrative Professionals Conference is $169. Pre-registration by April 15 is required due to limited seating.
