CHARLESTON, SC – March 22, 2011 – More than 700 runners are expected to take to the streets as the Charleston Digital Corridor and Comcast Business Class host the fifth annual Innovator’s 5K run (iFive:K) scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21. This year’s event will continue offering runners, walkers and shufflers the popular scenic race route through historic downtown Charleston. The iFive:K starts and finishes at the Charleston Maritime Center, followed by a post-race celebration on the harbor.
New to this year’s race is a team award-the PeopleMatter SPIRIT Award. You don’t have to be the fastest to win the award, but you do have to have the most spirit! Participants will be judged based on the criteria listed below:
– Social (media) Interaction
– Inspire Involvement
– Respect & Sportsmanship
– Initiation & Team Cheers
– Team Bling (shirts/costumes)
iFive:K teams of two, six and 10 are invited to participate. PeopleMatter will present the winning team with a $250 food and beverage voucher to Taco Boy in downtown Charleston.
Charleston Digital Corridor member eGroup is hosting a series of free Wellness Runs leading up to race day. The Wellness Runs offer participants the chance to run together through downtown Charleston followed by a post-run cool-down and techniques discussion led by personal trainer and avid runner Tyler Cross. Upcoming Wellness Runs are March 31 and April 12, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Flagship, 475 A East Bay St. Participation is limited to 15 iFive:K registrants.

Proceeds from the iFive:K will benefit the Charleston Digital Corridor Scholarship Fund, which exists to educate tomorrow’s innovators by providing scholarships, internships, public speaking engagements or other relevant work force development initiatives. For the second year in a row, ECPI College of Technology will provide two matching scholarships for students pursuing a technology degree.
