Atlanta Falcons Owner Arthur Blank to Deliver Lecture at Furman April 1

March 30, 2009

GREENVILLE, SC – March 29, 2009 – Philanthropist and Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank will discuss the value of a liberal arts education in business and other ventures when he visits Furman University on Wednesday, April 1.

Blank, who co-founded The Home Depot in 1978 and acquired the Falcons in 2002, will deliver the lecture The Values-Based Sustainable Organization at 4:30 p.m. in the Watkins Room of the University Center.

The event is free and open to the public.

A graduate of Babson College, Blank believes that a liberal arts education is the perfect launch pad for future managers. To succeed in virtually any enterprise, it’s helpful to draw upon lessons from a liberal arts education such as ethical behavior and social responsibility.

Blank practices what he preaches. He is president and CEO of The Arthur Blank Family Foundation, donating more than $250 million to various organizations. Blank retired as co-chairman of The Home Depot in 2001, but during his 23 years with the company it donated more than $113 million to communities.
