Beeman to serve as assistant professor at BJU

Dr. Shellie Beeman will join the Bob Jones University faculty this fall as an assistant professor in the Division of Music in the School of Fine Arts and Communication. Beeman previously served as an instructor for the McClosky Institute of Voice Summer Session in New Hampshire.

“It’s a great honor to have Dr. Beeman joining the voice faculty here at BJU,” says Dr. Darren Lawson, dean of the School of Fine Arts and Communication. “I have many wonderful memories of working with her in our opera program when she was an undergraduate and graduate student here.  Her training and expertise will be a great resource for our students.”

Beeman earned a BMus (2004) and a MMus (2006) in Voice Performance from BJU, the McClosky Voice Certification from the McClosky Institute of Voice in Maynard, Massachusetts, and a DA in Voice Performance with a Speech-Language Pathology Secondary (2014) from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.  She has also continued her education by taking private vocal lessons and completing Professional Opera Studies from Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois.

Beeman has extensive teaching experience, having served as an assistant professor of music and voice for Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado, an adjunct professor of voice at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana, a voice instructor at Ball State University, a voice professor and area coordinator for Northland International University in Dunbar, Wisconsin, and a vocal instructor at BJU. She has also served as a private voice studio instructor and vocal coach throughout her career.

Beeman has also performed a number of recitals and in a variety of stage productions in venues such Adams State University, Northland International University, Indiana Wesleyan University, Ball State University, BJU, the Chamber Opera Company in Chicago, and others.

In addition, Beeman is a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the College Music Society, the McClosky Institute of Voice as a Certified McClosky Voice Technician (CMVT), the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and is a Classical Singer Lifetime Member. She has published a piece in theJournal of Voice and won numerous voice scholarships, awards and grants.
