Benedict College to Host Book Signing, Reception For Congressman James Clyburn October 8

COLUMBIA, SC – The Honorable James Clyburn, (D) South Carolina, 6th Congressional District, will visit Benedict College on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 for a book signing of his memoir, Blessed Experiences: Genuinely Southern, Proudly Black. The book signing and reception in his honor will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the David H. Swinton Campus Center, 1616 Oak Street. This event is free and open to the public and is one in a series of events commemorating the Twentieth Anniversary of Dr. David H. Swinton as President and CEO of Benedict College.
From his humble beginnings in Sumter, South Carolina, to his prominence on the Washington, D.C., political scene as the third highest-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives, U.S. Congressman James E. Clyburn has led an extraordinary life. In Blessed Experiences, Clyburn tells in his own inspirational words how an African American boy from the Jim Crow–era South was able to beat the odds to achieve great success and become, as President Barack Obama describes him, “one of a handful of people who, when they speak, the entire Congress listens.” Clyburn will be greeting attendees and autographing copies of his book, which will be available on site for $37.00.
