COLUMBIA, SC – May 30, 2013 – Historic Columbia Foundation is looking for volunteers willing to donate six or more hours a month toward the Foundation’s mission to nurture, support and protect the historical and cultural heritage of Columbia and Richland County.

New Volunteer Training kicks off at 10 am on Monday, June 10. Training consists of six 90-minute sessions over the course of two months. Attendees will learn about the organization, our historic house museums and gardens, plus the history of Columbia and Richland County.

Last year, HCF’s volunteer corps provided more than 9,380 hours of service valuing more than $150,080. The time and energy of the volunteer corps makes it possible for HCF to attain many goals that would otherwise be unattainable, said Ann Posner, HCF’s coordinator of volunteer and visitor services.

For more information on how to volunteer, contact Ann at 803.252.1770, ext. 24 or [email protected].

Volunteer Benefits:

  • Complimentary entrance into the historic house museums (volunteer and members of his/her immediate family),
  • A 15% discount on Gift Shop purchases,
  • A free subscription to Historically Speaking, Historic Columbia Foundation’s quarterly newsletter,
  • The opportunity to tour and visit other historic sites during monthly volunteer meetings and presentations.
  • Plus, make new friends and share experiences with others who have similar passions!

What HCF volunteers are saying:

HCF is a nice place for me to utilize my skills. Whether I’m helping visitors or working on various special projects and activities, there are always opportunities for adventure at Historic Columbia. – Helen Brown, 2012 Volunteer Service Award Winner

Every time I participate in a volunteer activity, whether it be as a house docent, traveling trunk leader, etc., I learn something new. I feel like a sponge soaking up any scrap of information someone wants to share. – Pat Itter, 2012 Volunteer Service Award Winner
