Cathleen Lacey of Crayton Middle named Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert

September 15, 2021

Cathleen Lacey, curriculum resource teacher (CRT) at Crayton Middle School, has earned the designation of Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) Expert for the 2021-2022 school year. She is one of only seven educators in the state to achieve that distinction this year, and this is her second consecutive year as an MIE Expert.

The program recognizes visionaries in the field who are using technology to enhance the instruction of their colleagues for improved student outcomes. For the classrooms at Crayton where Lacey has taught for two years and was recently named CRT, the distinction is crucial.

“The Microsoft Suite of programs and apps equips teachers with the ability to differentiate lessons, increase accessibility, and streamline communication, grading and feedback,” said Lacey. “In my new role as CRT, I am developing multi-tiered professional development that not only addresses the instructional needs, but also the technological needs for every teacher at Crayton.”

As an employee of a Microsoft district, Lacey said it’s imperative for educators to be well-versed and current with all the Suite has to offer students and teachers.

“The accessibility features within various Microsoft platforms have a significant impact in reaching all learners,” she said. “Teachers are often so focused on instruction that they do not keep up with all the tools that Microsoft can offer.”

Microsoft courses and resources to implement hybrid learning are provided through its Education Center.
