City of Fountain Inn Wraps Up Successful 2025 “Spring Clean” Event
June 29, 2025The City of Fountain Inn, Public Works (PW) Department, reports more than 45 tons of bulk waste across 447 scheduled pickups throughout the City during the 2025 “Spring Clean.” This annual initiative, held between May 1 and May 23, provides residents with a convenient and responsible opportunity to dispose of large household items, not typically accepted through standard City sanitation services.
“This service is one of the ways we support our residents and neighborhoods,” said Brison Taylor, Director of Public Works. “It not only offers a simple way to get rid of large items, but also significantly reduces the kind of waste pile-up that may lead to ordinance violations, illegal dumping, and unsightly conditions. We’re proud to provide a programdirectly contributing to the quality of life in Fountain Inn.”
The event not only helps reduce illegal dumping and clutter but also plays a critical role in upholding local ordinances and maintaining neighborhood curb appeal. According to John Garrison, Fountain Inn Code Enforcement Officer, “City ordinances are in place to protect public health and maintain property standards. Events like our annual “Spring Clean”help residents stay in compliance while also keeping our City beautiful.”
While the service is highly appreciated by residents, Director Taylor noted the impact this event places on regular operations. “At this time, we don’t have plans to expand this service due to the delay it causes in other vital Public Works services,” Taylor added. “However, as our city and fleet grow, we will continue to evaluate how we can best meet the needs of our residents.”
Residents are reminded, “Spring Clean” pickups are only offered once a year, and bulk item pickups are not provided outside of the designated window. The City of Fountain Inn’s regular sanitation services are limited to the collection of yard waste such as tree limb cuttings, shrubbery, and other yard debris, provided they do not exceed six inches in diameter and six feet in length. These items must be placed on the front corner of the property near the street or alleyfor collection. Any debris resulting from commercial work must be removed by the contractor.
For year-round bulk item disposal, residents are encouraged to visit:
Residents should also be aware of penalties, including removal fees, liens, or legal action may be necessary, whenunapproved items are placed at the curb outside of “Spring Clean.” This is a violation of City Code Sec. 16-7, 16-8, 16-23, and 16-24. Violators have seven days from notice to correct infractions. Failure to comply may result in removal by the City at a base charge of $519, plus $173 per hour for labor exceeding three hours. Further non-compliance may result in a $500 fine and court action.
The City thanks all who participated and followed program guidelines this year. Programs like “Spring Clean”demonstrate the power of community engagement in supporting a healthier, more beautiful Fountain Inn. We look forward to continuing these efforts next spring!
