Clemson National Society of Black Engineers Thanks Corporate Sponsors

May 21, 2009

CLEMSON, SC – May 21, 2009 – Clemson University’s chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers said thank you to General Electric, Duke Energy, Fluor Daniel and Clemson’s Michelin Career Center for their sponsorship this past academic year.

Representatives from each sponsor met with students from the chapter and received awards and resume books.

General Electric worked closely with the chapter to help it host one of the Spring Zone Summits for Region Two of the society. The company sponsored a breakfast at the event, at which General Electric representatives gave a special presentation to participants.

Duke Energy gives $10,000 every year to support the society’s Pre-College Initiative Tri-County Chapter. The Pre-College Initiative aims to stimulate interest in science, technology, engineering and math and to encourage K-12 students to attend college and pursue technical degrees.

Fluor Daniel’s support enabled members of the chapter to attend the National Society of Black Engineers National Convention in Las Vegas.

“At this conference, we received valuable leadership training by attending workshops, in addition to learning about job opportunities from the career fair and the chance to network with other engineers across the nation,” said chapter president Brittany Jenkins, a senior genetics major from Charleston. “These kinds of activities would not be possible without the help of our corporate sponsors.”

The Michelin Career Center provides the group with space for meetings and file storage as well as guidance on job searches. The chapter’s adviser, Gail Johnson, is a career center employee.
